Abstract

Online learning carried out during the pandemic provides students with various demands that can cause students to experience academic stress. One of the factors that can reduce the level of academic stress experienced by students is hardiness. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of hardiness on academic stress in online learning during the pandemic in junior high school students in DKI Jakarta. This research design uses a causal-comparative quantitative approach with simple random sampling technique based on the N value of 400000 in Isaac and Michael's table, so that a total of 270 samples are obtained. The hardiness scale has a reliability of (α) = 0.880 and consists of 22 valid items, while the academic stress scale has a reliability of (α) = 0.937 and consists of 33 valid items. The data analysis technique used a simple linear regression test with the equation Y = 136.641 – 0.895X. The sign (-) before the number 0.895 indicates the direction of the influence is negative. The results showed that there was a significant negative effect of hardiness on academic stress with (sig. (p) 0.000)); ((p) < 0.05) means that the hypothesis is accepted. Hardiness has an effect of 39.4% on academic stress, while 60.6% is influenced by other factors. The findings in this study are hardiness with high dominant respondents, namely 139 students (52%) and academic stress with high dominant respondents, namely 138 students (51%).
