Abstract

Mathematics became a frightening specter for students and ultimately had an impact on their mathematics learning achievement. One of the factors that could affect mathematics learning achievement was self-efficacy. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of self-efficacy on mathematics learning achievement of students at SMPN 234 East Jakarta. The research design was causal comparative. Sample in this research was class VII SMPN 234 East Jakarta for the academic year 2020/2021 with 176 students. Self-efficacy was measured using a self-efficacy scale with reliability (α) = 0.940 and used 43 valid items (0.310-0.720). Based on the results of the simple linear regression, it was obtained at 0.001 (p <0.05) and the regression coefficient of the self-efficacy variable was 0.242, which means that there was a significant positive effect between self-efficacy on mathematics learning achievement for grade VII students of SMPN 234 East Jakarta. The value of R square (R2) showed that self-efficacy contributes 0.065 or 6.5% in influencing mathematics learning achievement. The description of self-efficacy showed that there were more students with low self-efficacy (52.8%) than students with high self-efficacy (47.2%). Furthermore, the description of learning achievement showed that there were more students who had high Mathematics learning achievement (51.1%%) compared to students who had low Mathematics learning achievement (48.9%).
